XELON Corporation
Small business... big needs!
XELON Corporation is an electronics components broker in Southern California that experienced meteoric growth from 1992 through the early 21st century. Their president did not want to hire any IT support staff (of any other “non-essential”) personnel, preferring to out-source all of those functions. IT support needed to be manage-everything for the needs of this small company.
The answer...
DWP Information Architects Inc. were originally called in to recommend a customer relationship management (CRM) system. The choice offered by DWP was accepted, implemented and supported for over 35 users. The relationship grew from there:
- XELON next needed help with local phone system and long distance cost-control. DWP implemented a refurbished Nortel system and started a long-distance exchange carrier (LEC) cost monitoring system. This system dropped the prices over 67% while usage grew to 1 million minutes a year.
- They then needed help with the choice of a financial system as they had outgrown the capabilities of their old software. Working closely with the chief financial officer, DWP implemented a sophisticated financial system that grew the company to $20 million.
- XELON then needed three web sites to support itself and its two subsidiaries. DWP put those in place and have been supporting them since.
- Later, XELON needed to add infrastructure and software to support a subscription website selling electronic components on-line. DWP designed, built and supported the system for its lifespan.
- To increase efficiencies, DWP built a virtualized server to serve all of the users of the company replacing three servers.
- At the same time DWP implemented a new disk-based backup system replaced an older tape-based system.
- As economic uncertainty took its toll, XELON was able to get a flat-rate managed-support contract from DWP that covered their computers, servers, printers, network, phone system, cabling, long-distance and local phone services, Iinternet service, websites, and strategic planning.
Over the years, XELON has needed the kinds of technologies that SMBs typically need today. Some project-based and some-support based. DWP Information Architects has been the solution all along.
